Project Highlights

Bespoke Solution

Through extensive research and product design testing, a fully bespoke filter configuration was developed for the client.

Operational Benefits

Operational improvements achieved included:

  • Increased filter life by 2-3 times
  • Maintained and improved post UF feed water SDI to RO plant, extending   filter life.

Reduced OPEX

Cost savings through reduced filter changeover frequency, resulting in reduced labour costs in addition to cost savings on RO operation via improved feed water quality.

Sustainability Improvements

Using Amazon Filters Ltd UK proprietary sustainable polypropylene feedstock, 466kg of CO2 will be saved per changeout. Working with local processors the SupaGard depth filters are to be repurposed into other products, keeping them out of future landfill.

More about this project

Client Profile

Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP)
Location: Victoria

What were the challenges?

Reverse Osmosis pre-treatment requires a minimum SDI (silt density index). If minimum SDI feed water specifications are not achieved this place operating pressure on the RO plant, in terms of efficiencies, labour, downtime, cleaning and subsequent costs.

The client needed to:

  • Improve service life of filters
  • Improve quality of feed water to the RO system
  • Reduce OpEx without compromising the quality of feed water or operating conditions.

What was the solution?

We worked with our partner, Amazon filters ltd UK, to develop a custom depth filter tailored to meet specific SDI targets, whilst at the same enhancing the filter’s dirt holding capacity. The manufacturing process was complex and involved multiple trial iterations to satisfy client requirements.

By modifying the filter configuration, we were able to increase filter void volume (dirt holding capacity) and maintain tight retention to surpass minimum SDI requirements.

What were the specific results achieved?

  • Target SDI < 3, being constantly achieved
  • Filter life measured in days of service; this was increased from approx. 2-3 weeks up to 4-6 weeks
  • Reduction in filter OpEx and improved run times
