DE Filtration

Diatomaceous Earth (DE) Filtration is a critical clarification step performed after fermentation and before final conditioning or packaging. It plays a key role in removing suspended solids such as yeast, protein haze, and hop particles — helping brewers achieve brilliant clarity and improved flavour stability.

DE systems use a natural, porous filter media made from fossilised diatoms, which builds up on support elements to form a filtration “cake.” As beer passes through, fine particles are captured while flavour and aroma compounds are preserved. The result is a clean, polished beer with a bright, stable appearance.

DE filtration is widely used in high-volume brewing for its efficiency, high throughput, and continuous operation — delivering reliable turbidity control across a wide range of beer styles.

At BHF, we support breweries using DE filtration with pre and post-filtration systems, process integration, and replacement media. Our solutions ensure your DE filtration setup operates efficiently, with reduced risk of blockages, improved sanitation, and optimised filtration cycles. Whether upgrading existing lines or improving performance, we provide the technology and expertise to support consistent beer clarity at scale.
