Brettanomyces Removal Study Results

Brettanomyces (Dekkera bruxellensis) is well-known to winemakers as a micro-organism responsible for spoilage. It is also a problem in the eco-fuel industry due to its presence in bioethanol.

A recent study by a European government laboratory evaluated a range of filters for Brettanomyces removal. The study was carried out on 10″ cartridges filtering a solution containing 107/cm2 Brettanomyces. Amazon’s SupaPore VPW 45, 0.65 and 1.0 micron rated cartridges exhibited a typical Log Reduction Value (LRV) of >11 per cartridge, and Amazon SupaPore FPW 00X grade cartridges demonstrated a typical LRV of >10 per cartridge.
