Clean & Green : How BHF Leads with Environmental Responsibility
Reflecting on our efforts during National Landcare Week
At BHF, environmental responsibility is not a campaign — it’s part of who we are. In recognition of National Landcare Week, we’re taking a moment to share the real steps we’ve taken toward building a cleaner, smarter, and more sustainable future for our industry and our clients.
What is National Landcare Week?
National Landcare Week is an annual initiative led by Landcare Australia, celebrating the people, communities, and businesses making tangible contributions to care for the land, water, and biodiversity that sustain our way of life.
It’s a time to recognise that sustainability isn’t just the work of farmers and environmentalists — it’s something that every organisation, including those of us in technology, engineering, and manufacturing, can meaningfully contribute to.
For us at BHF, it’s an opportunity to highlight the ongoing changes we’ve made to operate more efficiently, minimise waste, and take responsibility for the footprint we leave behind.
What We’ve Achieved Over the Past 18 Months
✅ Reduced Energy Consumption by 35%
Through a targeted review of our operations, we’ve successfully reduced our energy usage by over a third. This wasn’t done through a single initiative — but through several incremental improvements, including:
-
Optimising our equipment usage
-
Implementing smarter temperature and lighting controls
-
Promoting energy-conscious practices among staff
-
Upgrading to more energy-efficient systems
This significant cut in energy use directly supports our carbon reduction goals and reduces our operating impact without compromising service quality.
☀️ Installed Solar Power at Our Head Office
One of the most meaningful changes we’ve made is the installation of a solar power system at our head office in Oakleigh, VIC.
This shift to renewable energy means a large portion of our daily operations now run on clean, solar-generated electricity. Not only does this reduce our reliance on fossil fuels, but it also reinforces our commitment to long-term energy responsibility — and supports Australia’s transition to a more sustainable grid.
💡 Upgraded to Full LED Lighting
Across our facilities, we’ve completed the switch to high-efficiency LED lighting.
-
Up to 80% lower energy use than traditional lighting
-
Significantly longer lifespan
-
Improved quality of light for a safer, healthier workspace
This change may seem simple, but it reflects our broader approach: practical decisions that lead to measurable impact.
♻️ Cut Packaging Waste by 50%
Packaging is one of the most visible sources of industrial waste — and one of the easiest areas to make immediate improvements. At BHF, we’ve cut our packaging waste in half by:
-
Reusing plastic and paper packaging received from our suppliers
-
Reducing unnecessary boxing and wrapping
-
Selecting recyclable and biodegradable materials wherever possible
We’re continuing to look for ways to streamline how we receive and send products to reduce our material footprint even further.
A Culture of Sustainability, Not Just Compliance
These improvements aren’t one-offs. They’re part of an ongoing strategy to embed environmental responsibility and sustainability into the core of our business.
You can read more about our broader goals and commitments to the Environmental & Sustainability here.
We understand that as a company designing and delivering critical filtration and purification systems for industries across the APAC region, we have a responsibility — not only to help our clients meet environmental standards, but to lead by example in how we operate.
Looking Ahead
As National Landcare Week reminds us, caring for our environment is everyone’s job — from the community garden to the factory floor. At BHF, we’re proud to be doing our part by reducing waste, conserving energy, and continuously improving the way we work.
But we know there’s more to do.
We’re continuing to look at new ways to minimise our impact, partner with likeminded clients and suppliers, and apply our expertise in filtration to support a cleaner, more efficient future across the industries we serve.
We’re proud of our progress so far — and excited about what’s next.
